Samsung Galaxy S25 could get a major speed boost — here’s what you need to know

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could hit 4GHz, tipster claims

Samsung Galaxy S25

While the Samsung Galaxy S24 is still a few days away from being released, a reputable leaker has surfaced with an enticing reason to hold off for the next year’s model. Digital Chat Station, on Weibo, suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, allegedly codenamed “Tongzi,” might achieve a clock speed of 4GHz, which is a significant improvement compared to the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that reaches 3.3GHz. This potential advancement is not entirely unexpected, as Qualcomm is said to be transitioning to a 3-nanometer manufacturing process for its next chip generation. This shift would result in more transistors on the silicon, offering increased power and improved energy efficiency within a smaller space.

Although it’s common for phones to become faster with each generation, if this information holds true, it would signify a substantial leap. However, the necessity for such high speeds in a smartphone is debatable. Presently, there is nothing on the Google Play Store that poses serious challenges to the best Android phones. Even with a speed boost, the Galaxy S25 will require more than just increased performance to distinguish itself in the year 2025.

Samsung Galaxy S25: What we know so far

Apart from details about the chipset, there’s limited information available on the Galaxy S25 at this point. However, it’s reasonable to assume that Samsung will continue to integrate artificial intelligence, given the focus on it in the S24 series.

While the Galaxy S25 remains mostly undisclosed, there are a couple of camera-related rumors circulating. A recent claim by the leaker @Tech_Reve suggested a shift from the Isocell GN3 sensor to a Sony sensor, though the specific model wasn’t specified. This change was met with excitement by the leaker.

Moreover, @Tech_Reve provided a specific prediction for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. It is anticipated to feature an enhanced main sensor, an upgraded telephoto lens with “variable capabilities,” and a 50MP ultra-wide lens, mirroring the upgrades seen in the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

It’s essential to approach these rumors with caution, as the Galaxy S25 is not expected until January 2025 or later. However, more information from Samsung is likely to be revealed before the year concludes. This may include new foldables, the Galaxy Watch 7, and potentially the Galaxy Tab S10 in the late summer.
